The Checago Bright Foundation, Inc., in partnership with Environmental Resources Management (ERM), Sustainable Development International Inc. (SDII) and Grand Bassa Community College (GBCC) plan to build a solar energy system to power a public sanitation house (PUSH) which will provide energy to access, treat and distribute groundwater for drinking, sanitation and hygiene. This system will improve water supply to the GBCC Campus community of close to 2000 students and staff for various applications. GBCC is located at Paynesberry, approximately 5 kilometers southeast of Buchanan City, Grand Bassa County. Paynesberry is located uphill across the Benson River with very beautiful landscape and characterized by short palm trees and low grassland.

This solar energy system will power the PUSH and also provide energy to access clean potable ground water stored in three 1,500 gallon cisterns. The water will be treated and pumped to the sanitation house with a 100 psi electric water pump for hand washing, toilet flushing, and/or showering. A main access distribution pipeline to supply water to other buildings and residents of the local community will also be installed. Training for maintenance and operation management will be provided in collaboration with the SDII and GBCC. This will allow for replication of process throughout the country in rural and urban settings with demand for a decentralized water system for various applications including irrigation for food production.
